The hospital provides continuing care for residents with highly complex medical and nursing needs through support from the multidisciplinary team.
Referrals are through the Nursing Home Support Scheme (NHSS), otherwise known as the Fair Deal Scheme. For more information on this scheme please see Health Service Executive website – http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/list/4/olderpeople/nhss/. Referrals through the NHSS are reviewed to ascertain if the needs of the patient referred can be met by The Royal Hospital Donnybrook. Our residential care beds are HIQA registered. The residential care teams focus on enhancing and maintaining quality of life for each resident by ensuring the physical, social, psychological and spiritual needs of the resident are assessed and met within a safe and comfortable environment.
Clinical nurse managers facilitate residents’ family forum meetings at unit level, where families and residents meet with staff and exchange information regarding the designated centre, the facilities and services available, complaints, suggestions, upcoming trips.
In addition, there is a Residents’ Council which meets every two months whereby issues raised by residents are brought to the hospital management team’s attention.
Two units, each with 28 beds, provide residential care for residents over 65 years of age and one 10-bed unit provides residential care for residents under 65 years of age.
The Activities team provides meaningful recreational activities for our residents; this may be one to one or group activities. Group activities include trips to the National Concert Hall, shopping, movies, board games and crafts. Our team of Volunteers of the RHD form a vital part of the hospital’s Activities function providing a valuable service, giving of their time and offering their services which improve the quality of life for our residents.
