The Department of Nursing, Quality and Risk is led by the Director of Nursing. The Director of Nursing is supported by two Assistant Directors of Nursing, a Risk Health and Safety Manager, an Infection Prevention & Control Nurse, and a Quality and Practice Development Nurse.
Each unit in the hospital is led by a Clinical Nurse Manager 2 and suported by a team consisting of Clinical Nurse Manager 1, Staff Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Household staff, catering staff and clerical.
Person centred care is the foundation of the service we provide. Our staff regularly update thir skills to enhance patient and resident experience. The team works collaboratively with colleagues from other disciplines in multidisciplinary teams to provide person-centered services to people with complex healthcare needs.

Nursing Students
The hospital facilitates undergraduate student nursing placements with BSc nursing students from UCD carrying out their placement for Care of the Older Person.

HIQA Person in Charge
The Royal Hospital Donnybrook has 50 residential care beds registered under HIQA as a designated centre. Reshmi Kachappilly, Assistant Director of Nursing is the HIQA Person in Charge of the designated centre pursuant to Regulation 14 and named in the Certificate of Registration issued in respect of the designated centre.
Volunteers & Recreational Activities
The Volunteers at The Royal Hospital Donnybrook provide a valuable service, giving of their time and offering their services which improve the quality of life for our residents and patients. The Volunteers form a vital part of the hospital’s activities function providing meaningful recreational, one to one or group activities for our residents and patients.
The local Community Employment Scheme (CES) provides the hospital with assistants who facilitate patient recreational activities and we are very grateful for their contribution to the daily life of the hospital. A team of around a dozen assistants provide a wide-ranging menu of activities for residents of the hospital. Operating up to six days and evenings a week, the choices provided by the team include quizzes, games, concerts, movie nights and excursions.

Pastoral Care
Our Pastoral Care service provides spiritual and emotional support to patients and residents. Pastoral Care also provides support when needed to family members, relatives and friends of our patients and residents.

Infection Prevention & Control
The hospital employs a full time Infection Prevention & Control Clinical Nure Specialist.
The IPC role enhances patient and resident care through the prevention, surveillance, investigation, liaison, education and control of healthcare acquired infection.
